The loudest purported natural sound in modern history was the sound made by the Tunguska meteoroid which struck in Siberia. Well, they are pretty sure it was a meteoroid or a fragment of a comet. The sound had a decibel rating of 300-315. To give you an idea of how loud that is, a space shuttle launch comes in at around 170 decibels.

As reported by the University of Florida, within the natural atmosphere of the Earth, lightning creates the loudest sound, as well as the brightest light. Furthermore, temperatures during a split-second lightning strike can reach 50,000 degrees.
