The longest train in the world is an iron ore train that runs from Nouadhibou to Zouerat in the African nation of Mauritania. it is roughly three kilometers long, having 3 or 4 locomotives at the front followed by around 200 cars which together carry up to 84 tons of iron ore. All told, this train can transport close to 16.6 billion tons per year.
