What is the longest a shelter that uses euthanasia will keep an animal before they have to put it down?

Many shelters that are backed by the Humane Society of the United States will use euthanasia, but they also have no maximum time to keep animals. Rather, they will euthanize animals that have no chance of surviving or living a healthy life, or when they truly do not have the resources to take care of the animal. In shelters that do euthanize after a set time, five days to a week is typical. Check the first link for more interesting info about US animal shelters.
