The Enbridge pipeline system is the largest oil pipeline in the U.S. The system carries oil from Northern Canada down into the United States. The Enbridge pipeline is divided into two sections, the Enbridge system (the Canadian mainline) and the Lakehead system (the U.S. mainline). The total length of the entire system exceeds 3,100 miles.
The U.S. mainline system, which crosses the American boarder in North Dakota, stretches from North Dakota to Wisconsin. At that point the line splits, sending the pipeline east to Michigan and south to Illinois. From Illinois, the line head southwest and ends in Oklahoma. In total the United States portion of the line is about 1,900 miles (3000 kilometers) long.
