Diesel engines can run mostly on Liquid Natural Gas, plus a combination of some diesel fuel. This is a promising alternative to using just diesel fuel, because LNG releases less Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen oxides, and other particulates. Natural Gas refueling stations are being to pop up in places like San Francisco as truck manufacturers jump on the new market.
Liquid Natural gas is natural gas but cooled to such a low temperature that it turns into a liquid state. As a liquid it takes up 600 times less space than in it’s gaseous state, and is therefore much easier to transport to different parts of the world. It has been used in the United States since 1944, and is considered the best (of the worst) of fossil fuels because it burns much cleaner than regular diesel, oil or coal.
