LCA stands for the life cycle assessment, which is used by the Environmental Protection Agency. Other names for the process are ‘life cycle analysis’, ‘ecobalance’, and ‘cradle-to-grave analysis’.
The technique evaluates the environmental impact of a product or service so that the process with the least impact can be used. It evaluates raw material production, manufacture, distribution, use, and disposal.
The four main phases of the process are Goal and Scope, Life Cycle Inventory, Life Cycle Impact Assessment, and Interpretation.
