Frito-Lay’s main accomplished goal in reducing their carbon footprint to date is their introduction of electric delivery trucks. The company has also implemented a ‘zero-landfill’ initiative in all manufacturing plants with the goal of reducing their landfill waste to … well, zero. Frito-Lay has also teamed up with TerraCycle to give employees and consumers an incentive to keep Frito-Lay product waste out of landfills – TerraCycle turns the waste into tote bags and other products. The full list of steps that Frito-Lay has taken, and is in the process of taking, to reduce their carbon footprint can be found here: http://www.fritolay.com/our-planet/all-steps.html
Frito-Lay recently introduced the 100% compostable bag. The 100% compostable bags are made of plant materials and completely dissolve in a few weeks. They are currently working on a new compostable bag, with regards to the feedback they have received. Frito-Lay also uses solar energy at their plant in Modesto, CA to manufacture SunChips bags.
