A team of international scientists recently published in Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (July 2010), claiming to have developed a microbide (a live, topical solution cultivated from bacteria) using bacteria commonly found in the vaginal tract. They believe this microbide can drastically reduce the risk of HIV transmission by using bacteria cultivated from the human body to naturally stimlate the production of anti-HIV microbial agents.
Apparently there is a microbicide gel that can provide protection from HIV for women. In addition to that, treatments have been suggested to be started earlier in patients.
