The largest worm in the world can be found in South Africa and is aptly named the South African Giant Earthworm. This worm can grow up to 22 feet long (seriously). The record 22 footer was found in 1967 and the average size of these worms is 6 feet. There are a few other worm species that can grow to huge lengths (for worm standards) like the Oregon worm that typically grows between 2 and 3 feet and the North Auckland worm which grows up to 4.5 feet and gives off light (bright enough to read at night).

    Gross, but fascinating!
