    2. The largest wetlands in America exist in the southern half of Louisiana. However, the wetlands have been rapidly shrinking due to real estate expansion, global warming and human pollution. An advocacy group known as America’s Wetlands Foundation is attempting to spread awareness about the shrinking wetlands and reverse the damage done.     The state of Alaska actually contains the most wetlands of any state at 46%, or 174.6 million acres. Florida has the next highest amount of wetlands acreage at 11 million acres. Louisiana has about 8.8 million acres.
