The largest wave ever recorded was a 1720ft tall wave Lituya Bay, Alaska. A 8.3 earthquake that shook loose 40 million cubic units of dirt. When the dirt hit the water, it caused the massive wave that washed over the headland. Three fishing boats witnessed the waves with two fatalities. Scientists were able to calculate the height of the wave by measuring the high water mark.
