That would be a breed known as the Jersey Giant. Hens can weigh 10 lbs. – roosters, 13! Their name, and hugeness, are explained by the fact that two New Jersey brothers, John and Thomas Black, developed the breed in the late 1800s, envisioning a line of chickens that could compete with the turkey when it comes to meat.

I believe the largest type of chicken is the Jersey Giant Chicken. Bred in the home of the Sopranos, it can grow to be over 8 pounds in weight. It is valued for both its meat and egg production.
