There are many kinds of sturgeon, but according to the Fishing World Records, the largest sturgeon ever caught was a Beluga Sturgeon, or Huso huso, caught using “questionable methods” in the Caspian Sea and weighing 4568 pounds.
The beluga, also known as European sturgeon, is the largest. Unconfirmed reports size it at 8.6 m (28 ft) and 2,700 kg (5,900 lbs). However, a more generally accepted record is a female caught in the Volga estuary in 1827. Its length was 7.2 m (24 ft), and it weighed 1,476 kg (3,250 lbs).
