The biggest spiders in the US are the approximately 50 species of tarantulas that live in this country – mainly in the desert areas of the Southwest. The largest of these tarantulas can reach a body length of three inches, with a leg span up to five inches wide. The biggest non-tarantula spider species in the US is the golden silk spider, which can also have a leg span of as much as five inches. However, a golden spider is not as heavily build as a tarantula, and so should probably be considered “smaller” overall.
