The Santa Cruz water lily, of the South American genus Victoria is considered the largest water lily.  With leaves spanning 2 – 6 feet in diameter the lilly pads provide sustenance for local wildlife.  Lilies of all species and sizes are cultivated for aesthetic purposes.
