The largest water lilies are in the Victoria genus. V. amazonica has flowers of 40 cm (16 in) in diameter, leafs of up to 3 m (10 ft) in diameter, and stalks up to 7-8 m (23-26 ft) long. It is found in the Amazon River basin. The other species in the genus, V. cruziana, is a little smaller, and is found in the Parana-Paraguay basin.
The Santa Cruz water lily, of the South American genus Victoria is considered the largest water lily. With leaves spanning 2 – 6 feet in diameter the lilly pads provide sustenance for local wildlife. Lilies of all species and sizes are cultivated for aesthetic purposes.
