The largest species of crab is the Japanese Spider Crab (Macrocheira kaempferi). They can grow to 4 meters (13 feet) and live in the Pacific Ocean. One of these crabs had a twelve foot leg span and weigh up to 44 pounds
The japanese spider crab are also the largest known arthropods as well. Their natural habitat is in the Pacific Ocean and their diet consists of shellfish and dead animals that have sunk to the ocean floor. Japanese spider crabs have a very long life expectancy of up to 100 years. They have 10 legs with the front two being adapted into claws and they have a dark orange body with white spots on its thin legs.
