The largest ant in America is the Carpenter Ant. They are 1/4 inch long on average with the queen growing up to 3/4 inch. They tend to live inside of wet pieces of wood that they create tunnel systems in. The majority of carpenter ants have a deep black color. While Carpenters are large ants, they are still smaller than the African Army Ants that can grow up to over an inch long.
