The largest rooftop solar panel system in the world is located in Antwerp, Belgium. It is 800,000 meters squared(Approximately 150 football fields). Annually this system will provide the amount of power needed by an average of 14,000 households. When the plant was completed, December 2009, it provided 25% of Belgium’s solar capacity.

Although the current largest rooftop solar panels is in Belgium, the Bank of America has recently secured a federal loan through the Department of Energy that will enable them to build the largest solar panel project in the world. The B of A is partnering with the industrial real estate company Prologis and the utility company NRP Energy, and the estimated amount of solar energy generated from the installations is at 733 megawatts of energy production.
