From June 22 to June 26, 1998 the Midwest United States faces what American Electrical Power (AEP) described as a “Region-wide electricity shortage as an anomaly.” Reports showed that there were unusually high temperatures over the region causing unplanned outages at power plants in the region. That along with failures of suppliers to meet their commitments and transmission constraints, all resulted in the anomaly of an outage.
