The Hyacinth macaw is the largest species of parrot, growing up to 40 inches in length and weighing 2-3 lbs. They are also thought to have the strongest beak in the world. Native to the light wooded areas of South America, especially the Pantanal region of Brazil and Bolivia, habitat destruction and the illegal bird trade have reduced the wild population of Hyacinth macaws to an estimate 3-5,000.
