One of the largest spills in Texas history happened just recently in a major Texas port. It was caused when a tanker collided with a towing vessel which spilled about 462,000 gallons of oil. Out of that total number only 46,2000 gallons was able to be recovered, about 10 percent of the total amount. The 800 foot tanker hearded for an Exxon Mobil Corp. refinery in Beaumont collided Saturday with a vessel pushing two barges.
It was the largest spill in Texas in 16 years but paled in comparison to the one that happened 20 years ago 60 miles off the coast of Galveston. There a Norwegian tanker Mega Borg leaked nearly 4.3 million gallons of crude oil
