The largest offshore wind project currently under construction is going to be in Britain. It is projected to deliver up to 32 gigawatts of electricity–quite a considerable amount! The project is expected to create 70,000 jobs by 2020. Current research is in progress to fund the project–as offshore wind projects are quite expensive to build.
The UK’s Crown Estate just launched the world’s largest offshire wind project in January 2010, called Round 3. Three companies from Portugal, Germany and the UK were awarded the project which will be capable of generating 32 gigawatts of energy. The current capacity is only 1.5 gigawatts, so the project will bring a signficant improvement to the industry.
