It is also considered to be the highest freestanding mountain globally, measuring 15,100 feet from the base to the summit. Kilimanjaro, a stratovolcano, was formed one million years ago from lava flows. Two of it’s peaks are now extinct, but the third is dormant with the most recent activity occurring only 200 years ago.
