Great Pacific Trash Gyre
The world’s largest landfill isn’t even a landfill at all. In the northern Pacific Ocean is an area roughly the size of Africa, stretching from Hawaii to Japan, which is swirling with our throwaways.

Well, I know the Fresh Kills Landfill from Staten Island, New York was at one point the largest landfill in the world but since 2003 has been in the process of being renovated into Freshkills Park which, when finished, will be over twice as large as the city’s current crown jewel, Central Park. Not a bad fate for what was once the world’s largest landfill.
