The largest hailstone ever in the United States was seven-inch wide ball (as big as a soccer ball) in Aurora, Nebraska. It was discovered in 2003.
… until July 2010, the 2003 Nebraska hailstone was indeed the largest in recorded history, at seven inches in diameter. But after a July 23 hailstorm in South Dakota, a hailstone measuring eight inches in diameter and weighing in just one ounce short of two pounds was found. The hailstone, found by Vivian ND resident Les Scott, measured over eighteen inches in circumference! No one was hurt : )
