The largest fruit in the world is the Atlantic Giant (pumpkin variety), which can exceed five feet in diameter.
Atlantic Giants grow on the ground, however, and the world’s largest tree-borne fruit is the jackfruit, native to southeast Asia, which grows to over 25cm (10 inches) in diameter.
The jackfruit is the largest tree borne fruit in the world, believed to have originated in the rain forests of India. It can reach up to 36 inches in length, 20 inches in diameter, and weigh up to 80 pounds. The inside of the jackfruit contains large bulbs covering a light brown seed. There can be anywhere from 100 to 500 seeds in a single fruit at one time.
