The largest fish is the whale shark (Rhincodon typus). It is believed that whale sharks can grow as large as 20 m and 34 tonnes! And yet it feeds on some of the smallest organisms, microscopic plankton.
The largest freshwater fish is the Beluga Sturgeon (Huso huso). They have been known to measure 28 ft (8.6 meters) and weigh 5,940 lbs (2,700 kgs). They are an endangered fish species that are found in the Caspian and Black Seas. If allowed a full, undisturbed life, Beluga Sturgeon can live as long as 118 years.
The largest fish in the world is the Blue Whale.
