The largest ever recorded fish caught in a river was a 646 pound Mekong giant catfish. It was caught in the Mekong River in Thailand. The fishers wished to sell the fish to environmental groups who would release it back into the river. However, it died before that could happen and the fish was sold in pieces to villagers.
