In terms of sheer sales revenues, marijuana. At an estimated $35.8 billion, marijuana is by far the largest cash crop in the United States when compared to the average production values of other crops. The largest legitimate crop, however, is corn. Corn is grown on over 400,000 U.S. farms. In 2000, the U.S. produced almost ten billion bushels of the world’s total 23 billion bushel crop, and reaped approximately $15.1 billion in sales. Corn grown for grain accounts for almost one quarter of the harvested crop acres in this country.
