Does “largest” mean tallest? widest? most voluminous? Biggest footprint? Or something else?

Right now, the Empire State Building again holds the title for tallest building in New York at 1,250 feet, which it will continue to hold until the 1,776 foot Freedom Tower is erected in place of the WTC towers.  The largest building in NYC by area would be 55 Water Street, with 54 stories and 3.8 million square feet of rentable space.
