The Chianina is the largest breed of cattle. They originate from Italy. The bulls can grow to 175 cm at the shoulders and can weigh up to 1,280 kilograms (4000 pounds). They used to used for draught purposes, but now are used almost exclusively for beef.
Not only is it the largest breed of cattle, it is considered one of the oldest as well. This breed of cattle originates from Chiana, Italy. The breed even dates back to the time of the Roman Empire, where many of these cattle were used for their meat and were also used as part of their sculptures. Bulls generally stand at six feet and weigh up to 4,000 lbs. Cows on the other hand are a little bit smaller standing at five feet tall and weighing up to 2,400 pounds. The record for the heaviest bull was 3,836 pounds for a Chianina named Donetto, when he was exhibited at a show in 1955.
