The rainforest is rich with more than 10 million species of plants, animals and insects.  Tropical birds are beautiful and most are vibrant with colors. The largest bird in the rainforest is the Cassowary. They are a large flightless bird that belong to the Ratite family. The Cassowary is an Australian bird and are confined to the rainforests and  associated habitats in northern Queensland.  They are also found in New Guinea and other islands nearby.

The Cassowary are tall, black and greyish. The skin on the head is blue and is a darker blue around the neck. Some have a red lateral skin on the neck and their feathers are coarse like bristles. The youngs are striped yellowish brown and they become blacker as they grow up.
