The largest animal that lives in Montana is probably the moose, which is the second largest land mammal in North America (the bison is the largest).
Grizzly bears, which also live in Montana, are quite large as well.
Actually bison do live in Montana. They were hunted to near extinction in the 1800s, but the Government has since created a wildlife preserve, south of Flathead Lake, called the National Bison Reserve, more than 18,000 acres. It does not advertise since it is already visited by more people than it can comfortably handle, but it is indeed there.
