    According to Wikipedia, landscape ecology is the “science of studying and improving the relationship between spatial pattern and ecological processes on a multitude of landscape scales and organizational levels.” It integrates biophysical and analytical approaches with humanistic and holistic perspectives across natural and social sciences. The idea developed in Europe from historical planning on human-dominated landscapes.

    The study and improving of spatial variation at all levels of scales in landscapes. Consequences of landscape heterogeneity, biophysical and social causes are all included in Landscape Ecology. It links natural sciences and human related disciplines.

    The core themes include:
    the spatial pattern or structure of landscapes, ranging from wilderness to cities,
    the relationship between pattern and process in landscapes,
    the relationship of human activity to landscape pattern, process and change,
    the effect of scale and disturbance on the landscape
