The longest reigning monarch is King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the current King of Thailand. Formally crowned in 1950, the King has been in power now for 60 years at 81 years old. In 1930 the absolute monarchy was abolished in Thailand, leaving King Adulyadej with not much power. He does however remain a strong and well-liked political figure in his own right.
