Harmful weeds are usually referred to as invasive or noxious – they are usually harmful because they are introduced into a habitat which they detrimentally alter. How bad they are to the environment depends on the effect they have on a given ecosystem. I’ll list a few noxious weeds found in the US according to the USDA. Onionweed is an aggressive weed spreading throughout the Southwest that is originally from the Mediterranean and Northern India. Witchweed is a problem in the Carolinas, infesting and destroying many crops and grasses. Giant hogweed is a growing problem in the States, it being harmful to human and animal skin, and taking over other plants’ habitats. These are just some the invasive species found in the US, which are the most harmful to the environment.
