It looks like there are various types of trees used for hardwood flooring. These may include:

    Maple

    Oak

    Hickory

    Walnut

    Cherry

    Mahogany

Hardwood floors generally come in individual strips or tiles. I know from personal experience that it can be a pain to put in hardwood floors.

In past decades, hardwood flooring used primarily these species: Oak, Maple, Ash, Hard Pine, and Walnut trees. Oak was particularly popular among homes in America. Recently however, foreign woods like tropical woods are being used for flooring.

Bamboo has somewhat recently surfaced as a viable wood floor material in the West. Bamboo is a great alternative to other wood materials because bamboo is widespread and fast growing making it more sustainable than traditional hardwoods. I also think it is a beautiful building material and especially looks good as floors or furniture. [img_assist|nid=193560|title=bamboo floor|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=640|height=497]
