A large number of pollutions can come from landfills. The primary pollution is methane gas. However, any household chemicals such as bleach, motor oil, and paint can also leach out from landfills. Many landfills are taking steps such as having different drop-off points for household chemicals, old tvs and computers, recyclables, and garbage, to help prevent having potential pollutants end up in the landfill. Also, many landfills are changing the way they are set up to prevent leaching of pollutants into the soil. The first website below contains a larger list of possible pollutants and both websites mention many steps that are being taken to limit the amount of pollution coming from landfills.
