Monocrystalline solar panels are the most efficient, at around 18% efficiency. They’re followed by polycrystalline panels at 15%, while at the moment amorphous silicon panels bring up the rear with 10% efficiency. One advantage of amorphous panels is that if they’re partly shaded, the cells exposed to sunlight will continue to produce and store energy, whereas crystalline panels may shut down entirely even if only a portion is shaded.
