Magnesium and Calcium are the most common minerals found in water. Some waters, specifically “mineral water” may have minerals added. The minerals in water can actually help protect water travelling in old lead pipes my coating the pipe, preventing the lead from leaching into the water.
While intentionally added minerals can be beneficial to our water system, many are not. Calcium and Magnesium are commonly found elements in our drinking water, yet other minerals can lead to problems with hard water. Iron, Copper, and Manganese can all be found in hard water which is more common than most people would think. These elements can react with soap leading to a curdling effect. This hard water can leave residue in our bathrooms, washers, and even stick to the pipes causing clogging.
