What kinds of jobs do we use dogs for in our military?

Dogs have been used for various things involving warfare over the centuries.

In the U.S. Military today, the job of a working dog is similar to that of a police canine. Dogs are trained as sentries and patrol dogs, and their acute sense of smell can detect even small traces of explosives and allow dogs to be trained to sniff for bombs.

Dogs can also provide companionship and security for their handlers.

Military dogs have been used for various war-time tasks during the World Wars-some humane, others not so much. Today, the dogs are treated as crucial members of the military and are used for law enforcement, drug and explosive detection, intimidation, sentries, trackers, and even mascots.
