It’s already viable. France uses it at the moment, and the United States has used it in the past. The biggest obstacle to reinstating in the US it is the fear of the general populace, caused by well-publicized accidents (and near-accidents) in nuclear plants in the 1970s and ’80s. The only other major drawback to nuclear power is that its byproducts stay dangerous for many, many years, but it’s not that difficult to dispose of it safely.
