Depending on the species, flamingos live all over the world. The Andean and James species live in the Andes Mountains in South America. The Caribbean species live in the Caribbean area. The Chilean species live in Temperate South America. The Greater and Lesser Flamingos live in Africa, India, Asia, and Europe. They live in lakes, lagoons, mangrove swamps, tidal flats, and sandy islands in the intertidal zone. They like places with lots of water and mud.
Flamingos primarily in the tropics, with some in subtropic regions as well. They live near water, since their diet consists of shrimp-like invertebrates, preferring lakes and estuaries without too much vegetation. A lake is also preferred if there aren’t too many fish to compete with for food. They enjoy roosting in mangrove swamps and sandy intertidal islands, among other places.
The various species of flamingos can be found all over South America, the Caribbean, the southern tip of Florida, and the Mediterranean/Middle East/North Africa region.
