According to the American Heart Association, sharks have the highest level of mercury, leveling to about 1 ppm Hg.
Fish at the top of their food chain have the highest measured levels of mercury in their bodies. This includes top predators like: sharks, sail fish, marlin, and electric rays. The reason for this is that the apex predator will be subjected to the mercury levels of all prey species underneath it in the food chain. If a shrimp eats algae, and a squid eats the shrimp, then a marlin eats the squid, the marlin will consume the mercury in all of species eaten along the chain.
