What kinds of fabrics are best at wicking moisture?

Synthetic fabrics, like polyester, wick moisture better than natural fibers. Cotton, for example, is notoriously bad at wicking moisture, instead readily absorbing it. Some clothing manufacturers, however, can treat natural fibers with a synthetic substance to improve its ability to wick moisture.
