According to an article on Treehugger, the mobile phone industry is responsible for 7% of global emissions, which is about as much as the auto and airline industries. The mobile industry puts of about 183 million tons of CO2 each year from power consumption and the manufacturing of cell phones. This is because most people only keep their phones about 18 months before replacing it, instead of using them for their average lifespan of three years.
