When agricutlure uses pesticides on a large scale, these compounds will get into the surrounding environment and have potential to affect all kind of animals, as well as people. The species most suceptible to many pesticides, however, are those near the top of the food chain. This is because many of the most dangerous pesticides accumulate at greater and greater concentrations as you move up the food chain – a process known as bio-magnification. For this reason birds of prey like hawks, falcons, and eagles are often severely affected, as are top-predator fish in the oceans, like tuna. Humans, of course also feed near the top of some food chains, so we have potential to be heavily affected as well.
