Japan has the longest lifespan out of any country. The Japanese diet consists primarily of: fish, vegetables, and fruit served smaller portions and eaten slowly.
Diets that are very low in calories are generally proven to promote a longer life as it is seen that larger caloric intakes lead to more oxidation and free radicals in the body that can potentially do damage. Rats that were given small meals and that were on very low calorie diets showed lowered rates of disease and aging. Also, in people who practiced caloric restriction showed lower rates of disease and slower aging rates as well.
