What kinds of chemicals are there in dog poop?

Unless your dog has been eating something exotic, the chemical composition of dog feces (and those of cats, for that matter) contains about 0.7% nitrogen, 0.25% phosphate and 0.02% potash. That’s not a lot. Most of the material making up a dog’s waste will be organic in nature and composed of the same chemicals as whatever it eats. The real danger from dog feces is biological in nature–bacteria and even parasites that can cause disease.
