    Wastes that are considered hazardous fall under these categories: mixed waste, that contains both radioactive and hazardous waste; universal waste, containing batteries, pesticides, and other mercury-containing equipment; characteristic wastes, those that exhibit toxicity, reactivity, etc; and listed wastes, those that the EPA have designated to be hazardous waste.
